The distance between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Khaosan Road is about 34 kms and sometimes it gave you a lot of headache to commute between these two places as there was no direct public transport for this. Taxis seem to be the most convenient mean of travel but in Bangkok sometimes you have to put more effort to taking one.

Quite often you have to deal with taxi drivers who don’t want to turn meter on, and if they do, they might drive you in the farther route to get more money from the meter. In Khaosan itself there is also a lot hassles getting taxis from there because the area is too busy and no direct bus from there to the airport.

Now the new route from Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is available between Suvarnabhumi Airport – Khaosan – Sanam Luang and it is called S1 Euro 2 air-con bus with the fare is 60 baht. The bus is available in airport at 1st floor, door 7 without any connecting shuttle. Service is available from 06.00-20.00 hrs.

In 2017, there are 10 buses available for the route to handle the availability for the passengers. The fares will be charged at 60 Baht ($1.7) per leg.  The bus leave Sanam Luang which is 600 meters from Khaosan Road, and it will run directly to Suvarnabhumi Airport and stop on the 4th floor (the same point where the taxi send out passengers). If you stay in Khaosan Road, you don’t have to walk to Sanam Luang, the but will pass the main entrance of Khaosan Road. For inbound, the buses leave the airport on 1st floor at door number 7.  Staff will be standing there to give information there most of the time.

The route will go like this:

Inbound: Suvarnabhumi International Airport – Motor Way Route – Express way to Yamma Rat – All the way to Democracy Monument – Khaosan Road and end up at Sanam Luang. If the tourists are in Khaosan Road, the bus stop is available near entrance to Khaosan Road.

Outbound: The start at Sanam Luang – all the way to Bang Lam Poo – Khao San Road – Democracy Monument – all the way to express way to the airport. The bus also take about 12 stops before reaching the airport.

The first car will depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport and Sanam Luang at 06.00 hrs and the last bus will depart at 8.00 pm. Each bus depart every 30 minutes.

How long does it take to reach the destination?
based on a trial ride from Sanam Luang Airport at 11.30am, arrive at the airport at 12.30 hrs which the time for the lowest traffic, it took approximately 1 – 1.30 hours to reach the destination.

Ok, tt is a direct bus between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Khaosan Road but it doesn’t mean you will get to the destination fast. If you take a ride between 07:00 and 08:00 and between 15:00 and 18:00, which are the peak times for traffic, it is likely to take about 2 hours or more to reach the destination. But riding this bus, you can save up to one sixth of the taxi fare not excluding express way fee. The best way is just don’t plan to take a ride during the peak time.

There is also a direct bus from Don Mueang International Airport to Khaosan Road which is opened in early 2017 as well. Recently Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has opened a new bus route from  Don Mueang Airport to Sanam Luang (via express way), starting from 7.00  to 23.00 hrs.

Tourists can get on the bus at Don Muang International Airport, Terminal 1 Gate 6 and Terminal 2 Gate 12 to Sanam Luang with a fare of 50 baht for the whole ride. From Sanam Luang, you can walk to Khaosan Road for another 600 meters. Not super convenient but travelers can save one fifth of the taxi fare excluding express way fee.
