On the road from Chiang Mai heading to Chiang Rai, at Doi Saket there is a local road to Mae On District. From that point for another 40 kms, the car starts  to climb to the height of the mountain and arrive the destination here – The Giant Chiang Mai.

The Giant Chiang Mai, a coffee shop with build and nestled in the tree to make visitors to experience the beauty and nature of the forest. It is like you stepping to another another gorgeous world. It is fascinating, even just to have a cup of coffee, warm sunshine in the morning, beautiful views on the top of the hill. It is the place where many people come here to experience the beauty.

The coffee zone  of the Giant Chiang Mai has tables in octagonal shape. The restaurant is clearly divided, with a wooden fence around each table. This adds up to be more private and relaxed for each table zone. Some tables extend beyond the balcony to bring the visitors close to nature. The coffee zone is open from 08:30 until 17:00 and closed every Monday.

In addition to the chilled atmosphere and the best view, if any visitors  start to be hungry after the fun of exploring nature nearby, there is also a selection of Thai food, steak, spaghetti, pizza, cakes and other goodies. I have service too. Food  is open until 4.00 pm only.

The Giant Chiang Mai is literally located in the middle of forest.  The road to this is quite rough and steep.  It is not very comfortable during the ride but it should give you adventurous experience. Along the way, there are several coffee shops and restaurants too but most of them are small and look very local which are perfect for travelers who seek for getting in touch with nature.

Traveling all the way for the sole purpose to just visit this coffee shop might not worth your time. If you plan to come here, make sure to add a few destinations in your plan too. There are a few interesting tourist attractions not very far from The Giant Chiang Mai such as Mae Kampong village, Ya Chan Waterfall, and Teen Tok Royal Project Development Center and the famous Flight of the Gibbon which is 10 kms away.

For those who are interested in staying here, they are only 5 rooms available. The price starts from 3,500 to 5,000 Baht, inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What we found:

  • The place is filled with fresh air, and very breezy
  • A lot of birds can be seen in the area but sometimes annoyed by small insects.
  • The tree house look amazing. The overlooking view of forest is beautiful but not very stunning
  • Food and drinks are quite expensive when coffee is 100+ Baht. The taste is just so-so but since it’s far from the city and the highlight is nature not food, it is quite understandable.
  • Not very comfortable to get here. The main requirement is you should come with your own vehicle – a Motorbike will do.
  • It is for travelers who love and seek to get close to nature nature, and who don’t mind taking adventure in the forest. Also for travelers who have at least 4-5 hours to spend to explore the area.
  • Before reaching The Giant Chiang Mai, recommend to stop by at Teen Tok Royal Project Development Center which has beautiful creek, full of trees and natural surrounding
