Most jewelry in street shop almost has no value. Your purpose is to travel and have experience in many different place, not to buy jewelry. So don’t buy any jewelry in Thailand. Thai people are friendly but not super friendly to strike up conversation with strangers in the street. Thai people will speak when you ask them for something. Keep in mind that most Tuk-Tuk drivers are associated with scammers in some ways. There are decent Tuk-Tuk drivers and you can tell by the way they focus to take you to your destination rather than friendly conversation. The Thai Government doesn’t have campaign for street jewelry sellers to sell anything. So do not believe when they say the shop is support by the government. Similar to Thai gem scam, when you’re about to reach the Grand palace’s wall, somebody approach you and tell you that today Grand palace is closed for maintenance or for royal ceremony. Then they will offer you to go to other temples, as they say, more beautiful. There is no other temple more beautiful and magnificent than Grand Palace. Near the Grand palace, someone might dress as government official and tell you that it is closed. Still no dot believe them as they just try to make themselves authority figure so you are scare of them and believe what they say. Taxi and Tuk-Tuk Scam Similar to Thai gem scam. They when you get on taxi or Tuk-tuk, they might that the long way to reach destination, and very often they will bargain to use meter. Taxi drivers normally target on foreign tourists and ask for extra pay. Many tourists don’t know the standard price so they give up their money easily. Believe it or not the most obvious and largest area for taxi scam is the airport, especially Suvarnabhumi Airport which is the largest airport in Thailand where almost every tourist have to land before get into the country. The standard fee as per meter reading from the airport to city center should not exceed 250 THB. Taxi not turning on meter is illegal in Thailand. Taxi kick passenger out before reaching destination is also illegal, and you have right not to pay the fare. Before riding Tuk-Tuk, always agree on fair price. In short distance within 5 minutes ride, the price should not exceed 60-80 Baht. From Silon to Khaosan Road, 200 Baht is common but anything more than 200 Baht for Tuk-Tuk ride is consider expensive. You can ride very far with metered taxis. Don’t try to bargain with the taxi driver. There are as many as 300,000 taxis in Bangkok. Just get a new one. Drug Yes, drug is relatively easy to purchase in Thailand and yet it is extremely serious crime throughout the country. Thailand is a free country in many ways, but not for drugs at least not for tourists. For a long time, Thailand has taken a strict, zero-tolerance policy towards the use of illegal drugs and the mandatory penalty for drug trafficking or possessing drug is death sentence. For those who get caught and don’t receive death sentence will have the worst time in jail as you may know from several sources, Thai prisons are one of the worst place on Earth. The most used drug in Thailand is Ya Ba (Meth) which is smuggled through Myanmar border in Northern Thailand and distributed widely in Bangkok. It comes in the form of small pills, and later mashed into powder to be able to smoke. When you go a into not-very-friendly bar, keep an eye on your drink. Even it is rate, there are reported from time to time tourists getting drugged, robbed or sometimes taken by police. To get out of it you have to pay big money.
